NEUES DASEIN / Foreshame
2017
[2-channel video installation in a 2m x 2m x 3m dark space with a church pew. Video loop 7:35 min]
In this installation for 48 Stunden Neukölln Berlin, I focus on shame. According to Louis Tas, a Dutch psychiatrist, shame is the fear of being cast out. The installation, which has characteristics of a confessional, is a space for contemplating shame.

Through (virtual) reality simulations, the ‘Neues Dasein’ group show celebrates the confusion and ennui of the fast-paced contemporary life. The exhibition contains works by four artists – Isabel Ramos, Anaïs Hazo, Kalle Kuikkaniemi and me – bringing into spotlight some of the effects of an accelerating technological age and its unforeseen subsequent results.
‘Neues Dasein’ reflects a pervasive culture of digital isolation, boredom and overstimulation. The show analyzes the emotional impacts of the ‘Neues Dasein’ (new existence) through distraction, human interaction and personal reflection.
